Jeffery City to Rawlings, Wyoming
68 miles
1,621 feet of climbing
Good afternoon.
Day 30 is in the bag and I am living in luxury tonight. I’m in a Holiday Inn Express, which is a pretty wild experience after having been in the basement of that church yesterday. It feels pretty good. It actually feels like I’m on a business trip.
End of day 30, 70 miles, 2,500 feet of climbing across Wyoming, which is has its own form of beauty. You’ll see in the pictures it’s pretty desolate, pretty remote. I missed the wind today which I was really pleased about.
Some navel pondering today…
I thought a lot today about intuition and trusting yourself, trusting myself. One of the things that I talk to my clients a lot about is their head knowledge. It’s important to have head knowledge and be smart.
But as we mature, I think it’s really important to trust our intuition. One of the things that I’m noticing on this ride is that everybody has an opinion. I’m meeting other riders of course, along the way, and when you stay at these Warm Shower places, they’re all cyclists who have done bicycle tours and everybody has an idea of what you should do.
An example of that, the guy that I stayed with in Lander, Wyoming, wanted me to go all the way from Jeffrey City and do a 100 mile-plus day and get to a town called Saratoga. A hundred mile-plus day is a big deal but certainly doable. But intuitively, I just knew that that wasn’t for me. He’s done it before and he’s quite an exceptional rider and a really good man, and he had all the best intentions.
But along this journey so far, when I haven’t trusted my intuition, things haven’t gone the way they should. When I have trusted my intuition and my inner knowing, things have gone well. Today is an example of that
I started really early and therefore got to this hotel really early, but I also got to check in at noon and rest and do my laundry and have a few more days to get back to Colorado.
Anyway, I was just thinking a lot about how important it is for us to understand the inner small voice.
Something I liken it to – have you ever used a combination lock? When you get that last number and you just get this release – it’s the same experience that I have when I trust my intuition. When I really settle in on what it is inside of me I think is the right decision, I get that same release that a combination might give.
So that was my pondering as I was all by myself riding across the range. I hope you all are enjoying these videos and I hope you’re really loving the pictures. The scenery is just outstanding. We live in a beautiful country.
I hope you enjoy the ride, I guarantee that I am. It is a fantastic experience. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Thank you.
