Good evening.
I am doing this video from Prairie City, Oregon after having ridden about 45 miles with about 1400 feet of climbing, so really easy day with tailwind all day. Actually, we’ve had a tailwind for the last three days so now I’m worried we’re going to pay for that at some point with some tough headwinds.
I’m feeling fantastic physically, mentally and emotionally. Kevin and I are getting along great and he’s riding well. This is an easy day in preparation for a couple of hard days that I think we have in front of us.
I think the title of this video should probably be “out living it.” I really feel so fortunate to actually be out living and doing the things that I love.
I love being on a bicycle, I am in seventh heaven being behind bars. This is what I’m good at.
The other thing about living it – so many of the concepts I teach as an executive coach and a speaker, I feel like I’m just this talking head and talking about concepts. What I realized today is, consciously and unconsciously, I do a pretty good job of putting those concepts into practice. For example, one of the things I talk a lot about is these concentric circles of control, influence and out-of-control, and putting all your energy on what you can control, some energy on what you can influence, and letting go of what’s out of your control.
So much of what happens on these rides is completely out of our control, and I watch people worry about that stuff and it just doesn’t make any sense.
Through years and years of practice on staying focused on what I can control and what I can influence, I avoid a lot of grief and anxiety. It’s really a source of peace for me.
So that was the navel gazing that I did today.
Thank you so much for tagging along. I hope you enjoyed Steve’s little blog post – I’m glad that he put his story out there.
Hope you’re enjoying the ride and I guarantee you I am.
