Day 4: Practice What You Preach

Good evening. Here I am at the end of day four, currently in Eugene, Oregon, staying at good friends of mine, Allison and Andy Lewis’s home. This is a house that I stay in quite frequently as I do a fair amount of work here in Eugene with her, so it feels really good to be in some place that’s so comfortable and something I’m familiar with.

Today was a good, fairly easy day. 52 miles, and I think we ended up only doing 500 feet of climbing.

We rode through the beautiful farmlands of Oregon – shout out to all of you farmers. Thank you so much for what you do. I take for granted all the work that goes into keeping us fed. It was stunningly beautiful.

I really enjoyed the ride today. I spent a lot of my time riding alone. It was a personal growth journey for me today more than it was a cycling adventure. Some things that happened along the ride that forced me to self-manage, forced me to practice what I preach.

For those of you who are clients who are following along, you know that I teach a lot about being a victim and there is a lot of opportunity for me to practice what I preach out here, which is great. That’s one big reason I’m doing this ride.

Tomorrow and the next day are two pretty big days. Tomorrow it’s going to rain, and we climb all day. So there’s a little bit of apprehension from folks, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m used to climbing in Colorado, so no big deal.

The nice thing about the climb the day after tomorrow is it’s closed to vehicular traffic. It’s only open to bicycles and pedestrians until June, so that should be entertaining.

I am really, really enjoying this ride and I hope you’re enjoying following along.
