Day 3: Holding the Line

Good morning!

This is the beginning of day four. We are staying at a farm outside of Corvallis. A friend of mine from high school actually has a bee farm, so we stayed here last night.

Yesterday was a really interesting day. I call it my white line day.

So when I started riding seriously for speed in California, I joined up with this group called The Noon Ride, and it was full of pros and semi pros and wanna-be pros. After the second or third time out with them, one of them came up, put his arm around my shoulder and said, ‘Hey, you’re welcome to come back out when you learn how to ride a straight line,’ which was really humbling at the time.

But I spent about a year practicing riding the white line on roads, learning how to hold a steady pace.

Yesterday it was invaluable because for most of the day we were on incredibly narrow roads and I rode the white line almost the whole day.

You have to pay attention, you have to hold the line. There’s logging trucks going by, there’s people on vacation, there’s people texting, all the nonsense that goes on. But people were pretty courteous. We had a good day. People rode well.

It felt like a long day, even though it wasn’t long mileage wise. Almost 3000 feet of climbing, not terrible.

Hope you enjoy the ride. I know I am!
